Norcross Police Department

The Norcross Police Department (NPD) consists of highly trained men and women who are devoted to offering services of professional law enforcement to the city of Norcross. The NPD is a CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) internationally accredited and State of Georgia certified law enforcement agency characterized by a progressive community-oriented approach. This department relies on an authorized force of thirty six sworn officers and eleven full time civilian employees to take care of the safety requirements of the public at large. Its jurisdiction encompasses a surface of 4.5 square miles where close to 11,000 people live, as well as a population of almost 40,000 during the daytime.

The department comprises three different sections, the office of the chief, support services and field operations. The office of the chief includes the chief of police, an administrative coordinator and an administrative fiscal coordinator. The chief of police is in charge of the general police department operations, and establishes both short term and long term objectives and goals, and plans for the future requirements of the NPD. Support services is headed by a captain responding to the Chief of Police and who is accountable for the everyday supervision and management of the communications section, records section and state and international accreditation programs, crime analysis and internal affairs. Field operations is run by a captain, also responding straight to the Chief of Police and is in charge of the everyday supervision and management of 4 patrol shifts, criminal investigations unit, K-9 unit, property control and evidence, and enforcement of traffic and special operations.

Some of the other services offered by the Norcross Police Department include child safety seat installation and assistance, senior welfare call in program, gang resistance education and training, school education program, house check program, business and residence security checks, weather alert system, among many others.
