Norcross High School

When discussing public education in Norcross, Georgia, the main reference is Norcross high school. The history of this learning institution dates back to early 1900's, and it has come a long way since then. Since 2001, Norcross High School has a 41,000 m2 facility at 5300 Spalding Drive in Norcross. The Gwinnett County Public School System was able to buy this land because the 1998 tornado cleared the land of trees. The new building opened with a student population of 2,400 students, which has grown to a current number of 3,000. The former facility located at 2595 Beaver Ruin Road has been rechristened Buchanan High School of Technology, and is home to the Gwinnett Online Campus and GIVE Center West, a grade 6-12 alternative school.

Norcross high school has many sports teams which participate in different disciplines such as football, baseball, softball, track and field, cross country, swimming and diving, wrestling, golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball, competitive cheerleading, and roller hockey. Alumni have particularly excelled in basketball, and so far three former students have gone on to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Furthermore, a preseason poll conducted by USA Today ranked the Blue Devils men's basketball team the high school basketball program in the nation.

Additionally, Norcross high school has several fine arts programs. These include the Norcross High School Band Program, which has won the Sudler Flag of Honor, an award presented by the John Phillip Sousa Foundation for consistent superior musical performance; the orchestra consisting of approximately 150 students and divided into a Chamber ensemble, a Philharmonic, and two Symphonic orchestras; the Theater Arts Department which produces a variety of shows each year with great turnouts; and the visuals department which offers unique courses in jewelry, printmaking, and computer graphics, and which has won several awards over the years.
