The rapid growth of the Atlanta metro area following the 1996 Olympic games saw several cities created and annexed to increase the size of the important southern city. In some cases, there were small towns that already existed in the area and managed to keep their individuality despite the urban sprawl that took over the area like spreading ivy. The city of Norcross Georgia is just one of those. Despite its inclusion into the Atlanta metro area, the small city has managed to retain a feeling of individuality unlike other perimeter towns that surround the downtown area.

With just a small surface area of 4.1 square miles, the land allotted to Norcross Georgia simply cannot hold a large number of people. However, the city has shown a growing trend, now with a total of nearly 11,000 citizens. The biggest change in population came between the years of 1990 and 2000, when the population jumped from just under 6,000 residents to a new high of 8,410. Compared to other perimeter towns, the median household income is quite high, with an average of $44,728. The quality housing and excellent school system have made the city quite attractive and the demand to live in Norcross Georgia continues to drive up real estate prices.

Some corporations have decided to locate their headquarters in this region. Perhaps the most famous of these companies is Waffle House, a restaurant chain that is located throughout the southeastern United States. While many of the residents prefer the new boutique restaurants that have started appearing in the city, there is still strong support for the Waffle House brand in the area. With a history of being an area for resorts, Norcross Georgia has upheld the tradition of high living and a high percentage of the residents prefer the unique feel of the city’s charm to other areas of the Atlanta metro area.
