School Systems in Norcross Georgia
With a low population of just over 10,000 people, the city of Norcross Georgia does not have a need for widespread school systems. However, the close integration with the Atlanta metropolitan area means that these schools often go across the borders of the city. Still, there are only two elementary public schools that are located in the city limits. The first is Beaver Ridge Elementary School and the second is Norcross Elementary School. Also, there are two elementary schools located in nearby Meadowcreek that are part of the overall school systems of Norcross Georgia. As students move into high school, there are only two public school choices in the area. In Norcross Georgia, the option is the Norcross High School, with the competing Meadowcreek High School located only a stone’s throw away. Students also have the option of attending private schools that are located in the city. The Greater Atlanta Christian School allows students to interact with children from all part of the Atlanta area with a parochial education program. In addition, there are several other private schools that are easily within daily driving distance of Norcross Georgia. All students are allowed to use the public library of the city free of charge.
Students in Gwinnett County that have discipline problems may be sent to the GIVE Center West. This alternative school and its sister location in Lawrenceville has a lower ratio of students to teachers. The smaller class size gives teachers more ability to work directly with the students and address behavioral issues as well as help with academic studies. The GIVE Center West also allows the Meadowcreek and Norcross High Schools to prevent problem students from slowing the learning pace and holding other students back. This arrangement has worked out well for both parties and the school commonly wins awards for its teaching methods and success rate.
