Announcements

Please see our "Bids" Section under What's New to look at the bids the City of Norcross is currently soliciting.

The City of Norcross is pleased to announce it will receive $17,000 in Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) funds from the Atlanta Regional Commission, to be matched with $10,000 in City funds. The funds will be used to develop design guidelines for the downtown area and will constitute the first funding award from the completed Norcross Town Center Study. The goal of the LCI plan is to create a live/work/play atmosphere, improve pedestrian facilities, and beautify and revitalize downtown Norcross and its surrounding neighborhoods. The design guidelines will be completed by December 2003 and will serve as a foundation for future downtown streetscape and beautification projects. For more information about the design guidelines or improvements planned for downtown Norcross, please contact Ms. Lauren Blaszyk, Economic Development/Main Street Coordinator, at 770-449-4084 or lblaszyk@norcross-ga-gvt.com.

You may have noticed Gwinnett County Transit now runs several routes through Norcross. You can pick up brochures at City Hall or at the Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville. Gwinnett County Transit says, "The local bus goes where you go, without a hassle." If you need more information you can call 770 822-5010.

We have made some changes in Meeting Dates and Times for the year 2003. The Regular Mayor and Council Meetings will still be held the first Monday night of the month in Council Chambers on the first floor of City Hall, but the time has been changed to 7:00 p.m. If the Monday night falls on a holiday, the meeting will be held the following Tuesday night. Regular Mayor and Council Work Sessions have been moved to the Monday night prior to the official monthly Mayor and Council meeting. They will continue to be held at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room on the second floor unless designated otherwise on the calendar. Policy Work Sessions will be held the Monday night following the official monthly Mayor and Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room on the second floor of City Hall unless designated otherwise on the city calendar. All of these times and dates are shown on your new city calendar.

The City of Norcross has always honored the mandatory outdoor water use restrictions imposed by Gwinnett County. The State has imposed an outdoor watering ban between the hours of 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. with odd even watering days for the ten metro county area.

Budget or levelized billing is available for residential customers that meet specific terms and conditions. If you are interested, contact City Hall for more details.

As a reminder to our citizens, the third Saturday of every month at 2:00 p.m. the City of Norcross conducts a one minute audible test of the Emergency Early Warning System. A silent test of the system is conducted daily on each shift change in the Police Department.

Norcross 101 Purpose and Overview

The purpose of Norcross 101 is to educate citizens about how their City government works and how they can become more involved in a positive, effective manner. Other municipalities around the metro Atlanta area, including Decatur, Gainesville, and Marietta, host similar events and have found them to be very successful and beneficial for those who wish to learn more about how their local government operates.

Norcross 101 will be a blend of presentations and hands-on activities led by department heads and employees. Class size will be limited to 25 participants, and each participant will receive a notebook of information covered in the class. Classes will be from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. With the exception of the first session, which will be held in Council chambers, all sessions will be held in the Community Room at City Hall as follows:

  • September 25 – Overview of City Government

  • October 2 – Police Department and Municipal Court

  • October 9 – Marshal’s Department

  • October 16 – General Government Administration

  • October 23 – Community Development Department

  • October 30 – Public Works

  • Activities will include a mock Planning & Zoning Commission meeting and a mock court trial. Participants will receive a “diploma” certifying that they have successfully completed the program, along with a t-shirt that advertises the program and the city. Participants must commit to attending each session in order to receive a diploma and shirt. Applications are due to Lauren Blaszyk by Thursday, September 4.
